The Pradhan Mantri Vishwakarma Scheme is creating new opportunities for artisans by providing training, financial assistance and access to modern tools and machinery. For many participants, the scheme is helping traditional skills develop into sustainable livelihood opportunities.

One beneficiary shared that she has already completed an initial five-to-six-day training under the scheme and received financial assistance as well as machinery. She is now undertaking an advanced 15-day training programme to further strengthen her skills and improve her work.

For women, the benefits extend beyond individual skill development. The training can help them teach other women and girls within their communities, allowing them to learn a skill and potentially start small businesses from home.

The beneficiary expressed her desire to connect more girls with the programme and share the skills she is learning with them. She believes that such initiatives can encourage women to become more self-reliant and explore entrepreneurship while working from their homes.

The scheme is therefore emerging as a platform for skill development, entrepreneurship and greater participation of women in livelihood opportunities, while also helping preserve and strengthen traditional artisan skills.
