Millennial Gives Up Michelin Kitchen Job To Run Home Café & Take Care Of Grandma | On The Red Dot

After nearly a decade in a Michelin-starred kitchen, Chia Jin Fang walked away from fine dining to start something personal—a cosy café in her Boon Lay flat. With her grandmother recently diagnosed with dementia, Fang wanted to stay closer to home and try something new beyond the usual grind of restaurant life.

In her first week of running The Noob Coffee, the response is overwhelming. Crowds flood in. Orders pile up. And in the middle of it all, Fang juggles brewing matcha, managing logistics, and squeezing a full café setup into a tiny living room—all while learning the dos and don’ts of running a business from an HDB flat.
